According to meteorologists, the turning point and the beginning of 2024 over the polar regions will be accompanied by the formation of a zone of low air pressure with strong currents. However, if it is disturbed, it will warm up to tens of degrees Celsius. This will slow the speed of the flow and consequently increase the chance of icy arctic air reaching Europe in January, which is the exact opposite of what we are experiencing these days (warmer and wetter Atlantic flow).

This relatively frequent sudden stratospheric warming occurs several kilometers above the ground. It is in the stratosphere that the so-called polar vortex arises and disappears, i.e. a large area of low air pressure with a strong flow, mostly from west to east. Its disruption results in significant stratospheric warming. The flow subsequently slows down significantly and sometimes even changes direction. The Vortex will weaken and may even disintegrate. This phenomenon, even with a delay of several weeks, fundamentally affects the further development of the weather.
